The chickens have come home to roost. America at a crossroads

A Capitol under siege
A Nation looks on in horror.
A world stares in disbelief.
The chickens had come home to roost.
America was founded on the principle that All men are created equal was a self-evident truth, while America has never fully realized that noble principle. It has made strides throughout its existence in an attempt to. For centuries racism, bigotry, sexism, religious prosecution have either flourished in the open or simmered beneath the surface. Over the last four years, the Trump administration has tapped into that hate to openly divide our country more so than it has been in the recent past. The mantra of Make America Great and Take our Country back code words to return to the good old days when the 25,000 Ku Klux Klan members marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in full regalia. When women couldn’t vote, had no control over their bodies, and stayed at home barefoot and pregnant. When the LGBT community knew its place was in the closet.
For years communities of color have said that there was racism in the system. This claim is hardly a surprise as any large group will inevitably have a few bad apples in its rank. But instead of addressing the problems, the cries went on deaf ears, shouted down by the blue lives matter crowd, and echoed by right-wing politicians and media as a condemnation of the police as a whole. Now today, a group of domestic terrorists with active and retired law enforcement among them are responsible for the senseless death of a police officer in the name of hate.
The ADL has been monitoring the activities of these groups both on and offline for years. They told Americans that we must take white extremists at their word. That their threats of violence were not just the internet chatter of crazies but a real danger, in 2017 after Charlottesville, a march in which white extremists threw Nazi salutes and waved swastika flags, as they chanted ‘Sieg heil!’ and “The Jews will not replace us.” and carried signs that proclaimed the ‘Jewish media is going down;’ ‘Jews are Satan’s children.’ President Trump’s response? He equated these racist white supremacists with counter-protesters who were there to stand up against hate by saying, “There were good people on both sides.” Subsequently, despite being given many opportunities to so, he repeatedly refused to denounce white Supremacist terrorism. When asked in 2019 when directly asked if there was a growing threat of white nationalism worldwide, Trump responded, “I don’t really.” And then, in his first debate with Joe Biden, he again refused to denounce it; instead, he responded directly to the Proud boys to “stand back and stand by.” Throughout it all, the silence from his defenders on Capitol Hill was deafening, taken as a wink and nod by white supremacists that they were with them. On Wednesday, January 6th, Trump and other right-wing politicians stood on a stage in front of a group of individuals, many of whom proudly displayed their racism and bigotry. They were looking for a fight; they needed someone to light the fuse, and Trump, along with other men and women who had sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America, gladly obliged.
But for every action, there is a reaction, and this tacit approval of white Supremacists and their rhetoric has led to radicalizing a whole new generation—individuals who now feel emboldened to display their hate in broad daylight. Individuals who are willing to overlook corruption and believe any conspiracy theory spewed at them as long as those spewing it hate the same people they do, so much so that groups like QAnon, which not that long ago would be dismissed as far-right crazies, now have members who not only run for elected office but are elected. The result? Members of Congress openly state they don’t trust some of their colleagues and, as a measure of protection, have for themselves have instituted the mandatory policy of having to walk through metal detectors to gain access to the Capitol Building.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn said:
It is not because the truth is too difficult to see that we make mistakes. It may even lie on the surface, but we make mistakes because the easiest and most comfortable course is to seek insight where it accords with our emotions — especially selfish ones.
It is hard to believe that Trump’s Enablers and his hate-filled agenda did not see the truth. However, it is easy to believe that they choose to ignore it in their selfish greed for power. Whether they ascribed to that hate or not, their silence has made them no less responsible for the hatred that rages through the lifeblood of this country.
As a country, we once again stand at a crossroads. It will take courage and leadership to guide us through this dark period. It will take those we have entrusted with the governance of this noble experiment known as the United States of America to stand up to those who see only what they wish to see, be it right or wrong, as long as it continues their grip on in power.
As Dr. Martin Luther King said, Cowardice asks the question, ‘Is it safe?’ Expediency asks the question, ‘Is it politic?’ And Vanity comes along and asks the question, ‘Is it popular?’ But Conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’ And there comes a time when one must take neither safe position, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right.”
It is time the majority of our leaders do what is right before the chickens come home to roost again.

The Rise of Domestic Terrorism

White Supremacist group activity is on the rise, and what is the President doing about it? Trump planned to invite Angel Families to his now postponed SOU. While these families have undoubtedly suffered as a voter of color, I am left to wonder what about families like those of Timothy Caughman targeted and killed by James Harris Jackson in an attempt to start a race war.
During his tenure, White supremacists groups’ activity has jumped, and they are “directly responsible” for the majority of extreme killings in America. What is Trump’s plan to protect American citizens of color against this domestic terrorism? Is he going to demand to fund or combat these groups, or he’ll shut down the government? Or does he not care about the ever-increasing rise of white supremacists and, by extension, the safety of American citizens if their skin color is a shade of brown.

The Alt-Right’s sins against the Lord.

One of the significant aspects of American society is the right to free speech. No matter how hateful and divisive it is. No matter how vile you may take the message to be, it is the right of every individual or group to voice their opinion freely.

This weekend exactly one year after Unite the Right, the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, many of the same white-nationalist, paramilitary, and other right-wing groups are planning to come together again — this time, in Washington, D.C.

In many ways, it is a good thing that these groups are permitted to use their first amendment right to hold these rallies as it sheds light on the vile, dangerous and disgusting message of division and hate they preach. A spotlight for the rest of America to witness and be repulsed by, hopefully forcing them to admit there is cancer in America that needs to be removed. Discussions about race and social inequalities can not be swept under the rug any longer but must be confronted head-on if we are ever going to move forward as a nation.

These rallies also shine a light on the sins of those individuals who preach hate. The majority of them call themselves Christians but deny the undeniable; we are all one created in the image of our Lord.

27 So God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27

They presuppose that they are greater than the Lord they claim to worship. That they have the right to determine which of the Lord’s children are worthy and which are not. A direct rejection of the Lord’s commandment to us. As is written in John 13:34:

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another

The Lord created each of us in His image. He loves each of us unconditionally. He does not play favorites based on the color of our skin or our religious beliefs.

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise. – Galatians 3:26-29

Since the beginning, it has been the Lord’s desire for us to live together in peace and unity.

1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! – Psalms 133:1

And He warned us to avoid those who would speak differently!

17. Now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them. 18. Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words, they deceive innocent people. – Romans 16:17-18

So this weekend, let us stand at a distance, watch and expose to the world those with malice in their hearts, sinners against the Lord.

Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. – Ephesians 5:11

But as with all things with the Lord, reject their beliefs but be prepared to forgive those among them who repent their sins and ask for help in finding their way back onto the path of spirituality.

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. – Galatians 6:1

An Open Message to GOP Leadership

An open message to Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell, and other GOP leaders, we may not agree on much, but deep down, I bet you are as horrified as I am by President Trump’s response to Charlottesville. I bet you are embarrassed at the stain this man is leaving on your party. I know you gave lip service by INDIRECTLY denouncing some of his remarks via Twitter, but I bet you know you didn’t even come close to saying what needed to be said and saying it in front of a camera, not via Twitter. I will never totally agree with your legislative agenda, but in a democracy to the winner goes the spoils, and if you hold power, you have every right to push your agenda. But I assume you are smart enough to know that agenda can not include pushing hate and bigotry. Nor can it include giving aid and comfort to White Supremacists and Neo-Nazis. It is time you stood up and took your party back from Donald Trump. Do not be afraid to lose the support of whatever percentage of his base believes his response to and the actions of hate groups was alright. These groups and this President do not represent the best of America; they represent the worst. You can not keep America great, not make it great again because let’s face it, that slogan was created to send a message seeped in racism if you choose to stand idly by knowing what you see is wrong but doing nothing to stop it.
