From Till to Arbery a new day is dawning…Slowly but it is dawning.

Sixty-Six years

It’s an age that many Americans are still working.

It’s thirteen years less than the average life expectancy in the United States.

Nick Saban, who will coach the Alabama Crimson Tide in Monday’s college football championship game, is four years older.

Legendary New England Patriot head coach Bill Belichick is three years older.

The point?  Sixty-six years is not that long ago.  But it was only sixty-six years ago, in September of 1955, that an all-white jury found Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam not guilty of Emmett Louis Till’s murder.   Till, who was only 14 at the time of his death, was lynched in Mississippi in 1955 after being accused of offending a white woman in her family’s grocery store.  Protected against double jeopardy, the two men publicly admitted in a 1956 interview with Look magazine that they had killed Till.  During the trial, Sheriff Strider welcomed black spectators coming back from lunch into the courtroom with a cheerful, “Hello, Niggers!” jury members were allowed to drink beer while deliberating.  Many white male spectators wore handguns into the courtroom.  Emmett Till’s murder only reinforced the notion that you could be subject to violence if you were black, and the law would not protect you.  According to Deloris Melton Gresham, whose father was killed a few months after Till, “At that time, they used to say that ‘it’s open season on n*****s.’ Kill ’em and get away with it.” [

Sixty-six years later, on January 7, 2022, Travis McMichael and his father, Gregory McMichael, were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, and William “Roddie” Bryan was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole by Judge Timothy Walmsley in the death of Ahmaud Arbery.

Arbery was only twenty-five when he was “hunted down and shot” for the crime of running in a Georgia neighborhood in 2020.  The verdict and sentencing in the lynching of Ahmaud Arbery send a message that rings from sea to shining sea.  A message that sixty-six years after Emmett Till America, while still dealing with issues when it comes to race, it is a new dawn; No longer is it open season on African Americans now there will be consequences for your racist and vile actions.

Slowly but surely, the Coalition of the Righteous, a group united regardless of race, religion, gender, economic status, and sexual orientation, is rooting out those with hatred in their heart for anyone who does not look, sound, worship, love, or act like them.  As Martin Luther King said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.

The chickens have come home to roost. America at a crossroads

A Capitol under siege
A Nation looks on in horror.
A world stares in disbelief.
The chickens had come home to roost.
America was founded on the principle that All men are created equal was a self-evident truth, while America has never fully realized that noble principle. It has made strides throughout its existence in an attempt to. For centuries racism, bigotry, sexism, religious prosecution have either flourished in the open or simmered beneath the surface. Over the last four years, the Trump administration has tapped into that hate to openly divide our country more so than it has been in the recent past. The mantra of Make America Great and Take our Country back code words to return to the good old days when the 25,000 Ku Klux Klan members marched down Pennsylvania Avenue in full regalia. When women couldn’t vote, had no control over their bodies, and stayed at home barefoot and pregnant. When the LGBT community knew its place was in the closet.
For years communities of color have said that there was racism in the system. This claim is hardly a surprise as any large group will inevitably have a few bad apples in its rank. But instead of addressing the problems, the cries went on deaf ears, shouted down by the blue lives matter crowd, and echoed by right-wing politicians and media as a condemnation of the police as a whole. Now today, a group of domestic terrorists with active and retired law enforcement among them are responsible for the senseless death of a police officer in the name of hate.
The ADL has been monitoring the activities of these groups both on and offline for years. They told Americans that we must take white extremists at their word. That their threats of violence were not just the internet chatter of crazies but a real danger, in 2017 after Charlottesville, a march in which white extremists threw Nazi salutes and waved swastika flags, as they chanted ‘Sieg heil!’ and “The Jews will not replace us.” and carried signs that proclaimed the ‘Jewish media is going down;’ ‘Jews are Satan’s children.’ President Trump’s response? He equated these racist white supremacists with counter-protesters who were there to stand up against hate by saying, “There were good people on both sides.” Subsequently, despite being given many opportunities to so, he repeatedly refused to denounce white Supremacist terrorism. When asked in 2019 when directly asked if there was a growing threat of white nationalism worldwide, Trump responded, “I don’t really.” And then, in his first debate with Joe Biden, he again refused to denounce it; instead, he responded directly to the Proud boys to “stand back and stand by.” Throughout it all, the silence from his defenders on Capitol Hill was deafening, taken as a wink and nod by white supremacists that they were with them. On Wednesday, January 6th, Trump and other right-wing politicians stood on a stage in front of a group of individuals, many of whom proudly displayed their racism and bigotry. They were looking for a fight; they needed someone to light the fuse, and Trump, along with other men and women who had sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America, gladly obliged.
But for every action, there is a reaction, and this tacit approval of white Supremacists and their rhetoric has led to radicalizing a whole new generation—individuals who now feel emboldened to display their hate in broad daylight. Individuals who are willing to overlook corruption and believe any conspiracy theory spewed at them as long as those spewing it hate the same people they do, so much so that groups like QAnon, which not that long ago would be dismissed as far-right crazies, now have members who not only run for elected office but are elected. The result? Members of Congress openly state they don’t trust some of their colleagues and, as a measure of protection, have for themselves have instituted the mandatory policy of having to walk through metal detectors to gain access to the Capitol Building.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn said:
It is not because the truth is too difficult to see that we make mistakes. It may even lie on the surface, but we make mistakes because the easiest and most comfortable course is to seek insight where it accords with our emotions — especially selfish ones.
It is hard to believe that Trump’s Enablers and his hate-filled agenda did not see the truth. However, it is easy to believe that they choose to ignore it in their selfish greed for power. Whether they ascribed to that hate or not, their silence has made them no less responsible for the hatred that rages through the lifeblood of this country.
As a country, we once again stand at a crossroads. It will take courage and leadership to guide us through this dark period. It will take those we have entrusted with the governance of this noble experiment known as the United States of America to stand up to those who see only what they wish to see, be it right or wrong, as long as it continues their grip on in power.
As Dr. Martin Luther King said, Cowardice asks the question, ‘Is it safe?’ Expediency asks the question, ‘Is it politic?’ And Vanity comes along and asks the question, ‘Is it popular?’ But Conscience asks the question, ‘Is it right?’ And there comes a time when one must take neither safe position, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right.”
It is time the majority of our leaders do what is right before the chickens come home to roost again.

WHY DO THEY HATE US? WHY DO THEY FEAR US?

We have bled with you in war.
We have raised your children.
We have a love for this country despite centuries of oppression.
Yet you still hate and fear us.
Why?
Is it because you fail to accept the sins of your past?
Is it because you refuse to confront the racial and social injustices you have subjected us to 400 plus years?
Is it because rather than understand who we are as a people, you choose to live in the dark and fear imagined dangers?
Is it because you are amazed that after all we have been through, we are still standing, still rising, still every bit of the American fabric you believe yourself to have exclusive rights to. Or is it merely because you fear that if given the opportunity, we would treat you as you have treated us? It doesn’t matter because look around you; your hatred is being rebuked, your ignorance is being laughed at, your time is coming to an end. We Are The Coalition Of The Righteous and our time is now.

A Mother’s Anguish

It echoes in the wind.
It haunts the countryside.
It reverberates through the very soul of America.
It is the sound of a mother’s anguish.
Like a Hurricane, it begins across the Atlantic with a mother’s cries of sorrow when her son doesn’t return to the village. She looks longingly toward the coastline and realizes, like so many before, he has been taken by the white men in boats, and he would never be seen again.
It makes landfall in the American south with a mother screaming NO as the white men pull her son from her arms. As they leave with him, a tear runs down her cheek, and she realizes, like so many before, he would be sold to another plantation, and her son would never be seen again.
It sweeps across the purple mountain majesty with a mother’s sobbing as her son’s lifeless, unrecognizable body is pulled from the river. Her body trembles and she realizes, like so many before, he was in the wrong place on the wrong night, and the white men in the pickup truck took his life only for sport, and her son’s smile would never be seen again.
It rattles the amber waves of grain with a mother’s moaning as the jury of white men enters the court room and, despite all the evidence to the contrary, pronounce the defendant innocent. Her soul fills with disbelief, and she realizes, like so many before, any chance of justice for her murdered son would never be seen again.
It is heard from sea to shining sea with a mother’s grieving as the video of the white police officer calmly resting his knee on her son’s neck plays. She watches in horror as her son yells I can’t breathe and calls out for her, and as the life slowly drains from his body, she realizes, like so many before, the joy on her son’s face would never be seen again.
Listen to it, America.
Listen and do not turn a death ear to it.
Listen to 400 years of a mother’s anguish.

THIS IS THE MAN…WHO IS THE FACE OF RACISM IN AMERICA TODAY

“I don’t know much about the NBA protest. I know their ratings have been very bad because I think a lot of people are a little tired of the NBA, frankly. But I don’t know too much about the protest, but I know their ratings have been very bad, and that’s unfortunate. They have become like a political organization, and that’s not a good thing. That’s not a good thing for sports or the country,”

These are the words of America’s so-called President Donald Trump, words that should come as no surprise to anyone at this point.

This is a man who has never shown even the slightest bit of empathy.

This is a man who has shown no desire to address or denounce the indiscriminate killing of people of color by law enforcement and armed vigilantes.

With a wink and a nod, this is a man who has implicitly given his approval to racism.

This is a man who has never had to sit down with Donald Jr. and tell him if he is comforted by police outside his own home because they think he matches the general description of someone, don’t breath, don’t blink, don’t do anything because they might mistake your actions for drawing a weapon and fire 41 rounds at you, killing you.

Amadou Diallo

This is a man who has never had to sit down with Eric and tell him to be careful while jogging because it’s possible men with guns may pull up next to you in a pickup truck and ask you to stop because they don’t believe you belong in their neighborhood. If you don’t, they may proceed to shoot and kill you.

Ahmed Arbery

This is a man who has never had to sit down with Ivanka and tell her that if the police break down the door to your home without cause and unannounced, don’t make any sudden moves because while they have no reason to be in your home if you or Jared move to protect yourselves they may proceed to fire more than 20 rounds at you and Jarrad killing you and then file an incident report that states you had no injuries and that no forced entry occurred.

Breonna Taylor

This is a man who never had to sit down with Barron and tell him that even though he is only 14 years old, if he sees a police officer immediately drop to the ground and lay flat because that officer who has previously been deemed an emotionally unstable recruit and unfit for duty, may decide that any movement you make is threatening and before you can blink shoots and kill you.

Tamir Rice

This is a man who has never had to worry about his children being rounded up and being falsely accused of a crime because of the color of their skin, questioned for hours without representation, falsely convicted and imprisoned despite no DNA and all the evidence pointing to their innocence and some rich white guy looking to make a name for himself taking out a full-page ad in a major newspaper calling for the death penalty in their case.

Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, and Yusef Salaam – formerly known as the Central Park Five now known as the Exonerated Five

This is a man who doesn’t understand and doesn’t want to understand the systematic racism that people of color endure every day in this country.

This is the man who is the face of racism in America today.

This man has made a political career on the slogan Make America Great Again, which is nothing more than code for Make America White Again.

This Has to Stop!

George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain Ahmoud Arbery Rayshard Brooks, Sandra Bland, Sean Reed, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant Michael Brown, Walter Scott, Freddie Gray

This has to stop.

This is not a black problem; this is an American problem, and make no mistake, this upcoming election is not about policy, economics, or even Covid. This election is about race in America.

This election is about a segment of society who believe for America to be great; it needs to return to the days of Jim Crow and segregation when the KKK rode freely through the night. When Blacks “knew” their place.

I’m so sad, so angry, so tired of this shit.

I’m an American; my people helped build this country; this country’s wealth was achieved through my ancestors’ blood. I should not have to tremble in fear when I see flashing lights in my rearview mirror. My brother and sisters should not have to warn their children about the inherent dangers because they are black. My people should not have to grieve another black man or woman shot dead by police.

This has got to stop!!

Vote out the hate

Vote in the hope

White Power? It’s 2020 right and the President is promoting white power

My political views are no secret, but this is not political this is deeply personal.
The President of the United States of America just proudly posted a video of Trump supporters screaming White Power.
Again, the President of the United States of America just proudly posted a video of Trump supporters screaming White Power.
My United States of America!
Despite being marginalized, terrorized, and killed simply because of their skin color, the country, my ancestors have defended in war. Without their contributions, this country would not be nearly what it is today.
This should convince every person, and I mean every single person of color, to register and vote for Biden as well as any member of the GOP who enable him. It’s now it’s at the point if you’re not a person of color and you tell me you support him or remain silent on the issue, I have to assume you, too, are racist.
Too many people of color have suffered.
Too many people of color have been unjustly treated.
Too many people of color have been terrorized and KILLED by people screaming those same words!
SILENCE IS NOT AN OPTION!

What I Don’t Like

I don’t like:
Seeing people getting hurt
Seeing innocent business owners watched their life’s work destroyed
Seeing a movement being marred by the actions of those who loot and riot only to enrich themselves or push the narrative in a negative direction for their depraved political gain
I also don’t like
Open season on African-Americans
Killers who mar the good name of most police officers by masquerading as them
Racism
Bigotry
But what I don’t like most of all is a President who does not speak to America but instead hides behind Twitter using the tragedy of George Floyd and the subsequent unrest it has sparked to post tweets designed to spread division, hate & racism. Tweets designed to motivate his base to harken back to a time when they felt America was Great. A time when “vicious” dogs were unleashed on protesters of racial inequality. Tweets designed to keep him in power to continue to “loot” this country of its morality and enrich himself.
