To lead by fear is not leadership. Fear is an illusion used by those who lack the basic traits required to truly be a leader and that illusion can only be maintained for so long. Because like a small child most people will wake up one day and realize, for one reason or another, that the boogeymen used by the so-called leader to scare them does not really exist and once that illusion is gone so too is the illusion of power that the supposed leader wields.
The real leader has it within them the ability to inspire rather than scare. The capacity to encourage rather than discourage. The vision to show others that change can be a good thing and should not be feared. That we should not look to impeded that which is different but instead seek it out so that we may tear down the walls that divide us and confidently moving forward rather than cowering behind a wall of fear.
The true leader leaves a legacy, one of integrity, intelligence and truth.
We are not perfect but it is who we are, Imperfections and all. But our imperfections alone do not define us because each new sunrise brings a chance to break free of society’s judgmental eye and step out of the box it believes we belong in. To embrace who and what we are because it is precisely who and what we are that makes each and everyone of us special and once we accept that we will be able to see that nothing is impossible when we put our faith in the Lord and dare to dream.
They see the smile, a smile that conceals the pain behind it.
They see the many friends, friends that hide the loneliness within you.
They hear the laughter, laughter that disguises the depression you feel.
They watch as you reach out to all those who need help never imagining you secretly covet someone to reach out to you.
Your face is a mask and you are but an actor. But there are fleeting seconds when the stage lights dim, the crowd empties out and now alone you remove your mask and to see the tears that are streaming down your face.
But in those seconds know this, you are not alone. There is someone who feels your pain, knows your loneliness and sees your depression.Someone who has always loved you and whose arms have always been outstretched toward you. That someone is the Lord and all you need to do is believe. Believe that if you put your faith in Him in time He will relieve you of your troubles and you will need your mask no more.
