Looks like I made it

As I sat on my deck, I noticed a gentle mist had started, but I didn’t get up. Instead, I sat there admiring the trees and grass. When I was young, there were no trees, no grass to look at. It was just block after block of concrete. That time seems so long ago now, I guess I thought to myself, as the mist turned into a drizzle, I made it. Everyone thought I was living in a dream world, that if I didn’t give up these crazy dreams, I would never amount to anything, and they were all too quick to point out each time I failed, and I failed a lot.  But there was one person who believed in me, kept pushing me, and encouraging me never to stop chasing my dreams. That person was me.

For as long as I could remember, I believed that I was born to be unique, to stand out from the crowd. While the masses would march to the drummer’s beat, I would salsa to Tito Puente’s rhythm. Now ironically, the same people who told me I would never make it ask me what my secret of success is. I laugh to myself and tell them I always knew that greatness was in me I just had to work hard, push myself, never give up, reject the fear of failure and not let anyone take away my dreams.  Right then, my 6-year-old son called out to me, “Daddy, it’s raining. Come inside.” I looked at him and smiled as I said, “it’s ok, your Daddy never gets caught in the rain because he learned how to soar above the clouds.”

To lead by fear is not leadership

To lead by fear is not leadership. Fear is an illusion used by those who lack the basic traits required to truly be a leader and that illusion can only be maintained for so long.  Because like a small child most people will wake up one day and realize, for one reason or another, that the boogeymen used by the so-called leader to scare them does not really exist and once that illusion is gone so too is the illusion of power that the supposed leader wields.

The real leader has it within them the ability to inspire rather than scare. The capacity to encourage rather than discourage. The vision to show others that change can be a good thing and should not be feared. That we should not look to impeded that which is different but instead seek it out so that we may tear down the walls that divide us and confidently moving forward rather than cowering behind a wall of fear.

The true leader leaves a legacy, one of integrity, intelligence and truth.

Thursday

Good Morning all we wake to another day thanks to the Lord our God and that day is Thursday. Thursday! Yeah I know Thursday just that day you’ve got to grind through to get to Friday. But let’s make this Thursday one to remember. Go out be bold today. Do something you’ve been wanting to do but were to afraid too, as long as it’s legal 😄. Treat yourself to a gift, as long as it doesn’t break the bank.  Take that special someone to lunch or dinner. Buy that special someone roses for no reason other than to say I you love, yes that means you too ladies. Do whatever it takes because Thursday isn’t just that day you have to grind through to get to Friday Thursday can be whatever you want it to be. So make it great!
